OUR WORDS
4.0 Goals & Principles
Consistency in our writing style, the words we use, and how we use them, are as important to ISANS’ brand as the logo, fonts, and colours.
Basic Guidelines
Use plain language. Write in easy to read, short sentences, that convey your information in easy to understand vocabulary. You will save your reader time and effort and ensure that your message is clear.
Write for all readers. Some people will read every word you write, others will skim. Help everyone read better by grouping related ideas together and using descriptive headers and subheaders.
Focus your message. Create a hierarchy of information. Lead with the main point or the most important content, in sentences, paragraphs, sections, and pages.
Be concise. Use short words and sentences. Avoid unnecessary modifiers.
Be consistent. Use the language, spelling and grammar in this guide.
